{"id":6089,"date":"2021-06-11T15:39:31","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T13:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/podlupom.org\/uncategorized\/more-than-60-csos-discussed-electoral-reform\/"},"modified":"2021-09-28T14:49:31","modified_gmt":"2021-09-28T12:49:31","slug":"more-than-60-csos-discussed-electoral-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/podlupom.org\/en\/press\/news\/more-than-60-csos-discussed-electoral-reform\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 60 CSOs discussed electoral reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The discussion of CSOs was preceded by speeches by: <strong>Mr. Faris Vehabovi\u0107<\/strong>, Judge of the European Court of Human Rights, on the key judgments of this court in the context of electoral reforms; <strong>Mrs. Branka Baji\u0107<\/strong>, on behalf of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH on the most important EU priorities related to electoral reforms;\u00a0 representative of ODIHR <strong>Mrs. Martina Barker &#8211; Cigankova<\/strong>, on OSCE\/ODIHR&#8217;s recommendations for improving the election process and <strong>Mr. Dario Jovanovi\u0107<\/strong>, project manager of the Coalition &#8220;Pod lupom&#8221; who presented some of the key findings on non-partisan election observation and recommendations to improve the election process.<\/p>\n<p>The process of amending the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina must include a wider range of actors, including CSOs.\u00a0 In three-day online conversations, it was pointed out that a complex process, such as electoral reform, must not take place behind closed doors, because the outcomes of electoral reform concern all BiH citizens.<\/p>\n<p>There are four the most important ways to move towards better elections in BiH: <strong>institutiona<\/strong>l, through the work of the Interdepartmental Working Group; <strong>political<\/strong>, with a compromise between political actors and ongoing talks on improvments; <strong>international<\/strong>, with the coordination of the international community, institutions and organizations to assist in the process of electoral reforms; <strong>and citizen participation <\/strong>in public hearings and meetings\u00a0 in order to present solutions to citizens. Currently,\u00a0 the efforts of CSOs to improve the electoral process is almost the only and rare, direct contact between citizens and decision &#8211; makers and this needs to be changed. Decision-makers should be more open to the processes, and the public should also be more involved in those processes. \u2013 stresses in\u00a0 the Coalition &#8220;Pod lupom&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the discussion, all\u00a0 CSOs that participated in the talks on electoral reform will present common conclusions and determine key priorities to amend the Election Law, which will form a clear position on electoral reform by the NGO sector and CSOs throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Upon the initiative and with the support of the European Union, the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections &#8220;Pod lupom&#8221; organized three-day online talks on electoral reform with participation CSOs  from across the state.
