In the local elections in Croatia, held last weekend, it was shown in two municipalities that every single vote truly matters.
In the municipality of Petrovsko in the Zagorje region, a new mayor was elected: independent candidate Valentina Presečki, who defeated her opponent Željko Vučilovski, ending HDZ’s 16-year rule. The margin of victory? Just one vote. After several recounts, Presečki secured 559 votes, while Vučilovski received 558.
A similar outcome occurred in the municipality of Novi Golubovec. There, SDP candidate Ivan Delija narrowly defeated HDZ’s Boris Tušek—again, by a single vote. Delija won 297 votes, while Tušek got 296.
