With great sadness, we inform the public that the Director of the Centers for Civic Initiatives, Zlatan Ohranović, suddenly passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, daughters, extended family, and friends. Our thoughts are with them.
The passing of Zlatan Ohranović is not only an irreplaceable loss for his family but also for CCI and civil society in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was not only an exceptional person but also a professional who made an immeasurable contribution to the development and preservation of CCI. The employees of CCI will remember him not only as a successful director but also as a friend who was always there to provide support and help in moments when it was most needed.
Since the founding of CCI, Zlatan Ohranović had been the director of the organization, laying the foundations for its long-standing work and achievements. He left a deep mark on the organization—as a visionary and as a manager who was always present.
His perseverance, tireless energy, and his desire for all citizens of BiH to live in a better and more just society were crucial for the strategic direction of the organization. He firmly believed that civil society must be united and strive for the establishment of the rule of law and the respect of democratic principles in BiH—and he tirelessly advocated for this vision together with the Management and employees.
The memory of him will remain everlasting.
A commemoration for Zlatan Ohranović will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Center for Culture in Lukavac.
The funeral procession will begin in front of the City Mosque in Lukavac on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. The funeral prayer (dženaza) and burial will take place at the Brdo 2 cemetery. A tevhid prayer will be recited after the funeral in the mosque in Turkish Lukavac.
