The second cycle of trainings for the representatives of police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Banja Luka with the aim to strengthen the integrity of the election process.
Mr. Goran Mišković, on behalf of the Central Election Commission of BiH (CEC BiH), presented to the participants an overview of the electoral system, the types of elections in BiH, and the key electoral processes.
Zoran Petoš, the project coordinator of the Coalition “Pod lupom”, in cooperation with the CEC BiH, introduced the participants the specific types of electoral irregularities in BiH, and presented examples from the current practice.
The first day of the training was closed by Gorana Đurković, on behalf of the Doboj Police Department, who presented to the participants the key steps in the investigation of election irregularities, collection and analysis of evidence, and cooperation with investigative bodies.
The President of the Strategic Committee of the Coalition “Pod lupom”, Mr. Vehid Šehić, pointed out the importance to improve the electoral process in BiH, and to strengthen the capacity of police agencies in BiH so to ensure a proactive approach in processing electoral irregularities.
On the second day of the training, Mr. Saša Lazić on behalf of the Brčko District Police Department, Mr. Vaso Bajkanović on behalf of the Doboj Police Department and Mr. Dragan Trivanović on behalf of the Prijedor Police Department presented to the participants experiences from the previous practice in the work of police agencies.
Mr. Joso Mikić, on behalf of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Posavina Canton, spoke about the competence and role of police officers on the Election Day.
The training for police agencies was closed by Mr. Zekerija Mujkanović, the chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Brčko District of BiH, who spoke about proving guilt in the case of committing criminal offenses in the electoral process, i.e., about proving guilt in the cases of electoral irregularities as well as usage of witnesses and experts in this field.
Following are participating in the second cycle of training: Banja Luka Police department, Canton 10 Ministry of Interior Affairs, Prijedor Police Department, Gradiška Police Department, Central Bosnia Canton Ministry of Interior Affairs, Mrkonjić Grad Police department, Police Support Directorate – RS Ministry of Interior Affairs and Una-Sana Canton Ministry of Interior Affairs.
The first cycle of training was held in the Brčko District of BiH while the third and final cycle is planned to be organized in February in Sarajevo.
