Sarajevo, May 4, 2022 – At today’s session, the Central Election Commission of BiH (the BIH CEC) passed and announced the Decision to call and hold the 2022 General Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The elections will be held on Sunday, October 2, this year.
Direct elections are called for:
- Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina,
- House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina,
- House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina,
- National Assembly of the Republika Srpska,
- The President and Vice-Presidents of the Republika Srpska and
- Cantonal Assemblies in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
6 out of 7 members of the BiH CEC voted for the Decision on calling and holding the 2022 General Elections in BiH. Dr. Ahmet Šantić voted for the decision by correspondence (by phone), which is in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the BiH CEC.
It has been planned that the upcoming elections will cost around 11.728.000,00 KM. According to the provisions of the Article 1.2a of the Election Law of BiH, the competent institutions must provide funds for the implementation of elections within 15 days from the day elections are called, i.e., by May 19.
The BiH CEC adopted the Decision to conclude the Central Voters Register, as of January 3, 2022 at 24:00, according to which 3.371,487 voters were entered in the Central Voters Register.
The BiH CEC today also adopted the Instruction on the deadlines and the sequence of election activities for the 2022 General Elections. The mentioned Instruction, as well as all acts important for holding the 2022 General Elections, will be published on the website of the BiH CEC, under the link “General Elections”.
The application “e-Elections” and the electronic way of registering voters for voting outside BiH were presented to the public, which will be active from today. A video was published on the YouTube channel and the website of the BiH CEC with clear instructions for using the application. There is also a user guide on the e-Elections portal itself. The e-Elections web application was developed with the support of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
