The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections “Pod lupom” will conduct a civic, non-partisan observation mission for the Early Mayoral Elections in Vareš Municipality, scheduled for Sunday, 15 February 2026.
On election day, the “Pod lupom” Coalition will deploy election-day observers (EDOs) to all 20 polling stations in Vareš Municipality to continuously monitor the entire electoral process. Additionally, a mobile team will be established to visit polling stations and respond to reported irregularities or situations requiring additional observation.
“Election-day observers will monitor all stages of the electoral process, including the preparation and opening of polling stations, voting procedures, the closing of polling stations, vote counting, packing of election materials, and the announcement of election results. All potential irregularities that could affect the election process will be closely observed, and immediate action will be taken to address any issues to ensure the elections proceed in accordance with the law,” the Coalition stated.
The “Pod lupom” Coalition will also track voter turnout throughout election day, providing independent data on voter participation in Vareš Municipality. Turnout data will be published at three intervals: 11:00, 15:00, and 19:00.
In the evening, after polling stations close and field data has been collected, the “Pod lupom” Coalition will release preliminary results for the mayoral election in Vareš Municipality based on information gathered from its observers.
“We call on all political parties and candidates to conduct themselves on election day in the spirit of democratic culture and respect for the law. At the same time, we expect competent authorities, the electoral administration, law enforcement agencies, and prosecutors to respond efficiently and impartially to any irregularities,” the Coalition emphasized.
The “Pod lupom” Coalition encourages citizens of Vareš Municipality to participate in the elections and exercise their right to vote. Any observed irregularities can be reported via the free hotline 080 05 05 05 or through the Coalition’s official social media channels.
As a reminder, following the passing of the Mayor of Vareš Municipality in December 2025, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH), in accordance with electoral regulations, terminated the mayor’s mandate and issued a decision to organize and hold early elections to elect a new mayor of Vareš Municipality.
