Representatives of the Coalition for Free and Fair Elections “Pod lupom” together with more than 40 CSOs partner organizations come out to the streets of BiH today at a symbolic time, five minutes to twelve, to send a message that there is very little time left to improve the election process in BiH.
Just a 15 days left until the calling of 2022 General Elections and very little time to amend the Electoral Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is high time for the parliamentarians of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to adopt the necessary amendments to the Election Law in order to make the elections freer and fairer, and to restore the citizens’ trust in the election process. – they said in the Coalition “Pod lupom”.
The Coalition “Pod lupom” reminds that the Draft Law on Amendments to the Electoral Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, signed by 17 deputies in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, was sent to the parliamentary procedure, with a request to be considered by summary procedure.
A significant number of recommendations of the Coalition “Pod lupom”, which would greatly improve the Electoral process, are included in the Draft Law on Amendments to the Election Law of BiH, including the introduction of new technologies in the election process. We remind you that the citizens’ petition of the Coalition “Pod lupom” for the introduction of electronic identification of voters and machines for scanning ballots was signed by 92,000 citizens of BiH. All 92,000 signatures of BiH citizens were submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is clear that the majority of BiH citizens believe that it is necessary to work on increasing the integrity of the election process, which has been compromised over the years.
In addition, other technical improvements, advocated by the Coalition “Pod lupom” in the previous period, were also proposed, such as the reform of polling stations, prevention of misuse of public resources in pre-election purposes and election campaign, and the introduction of a replacing parliamentary mandate.
From the Coalition “Pod lupom” they said that they would continue to actively and loudly advocate for the improvement of the election process, and invited decision-makers, parliamentarians of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, to adopt amendments to the Election Law of BiH.
