The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections “Pod lupom” has released the second episode of the informative and educational podcast Election Compass, which brings the electoral process, its challenges, and potential solutions for improving election integrity closer to citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a clear and accessible way.
The Election Compass podcast was launched as part of the project “Civil Society for Election Integrity,” funded by the European Union and co-financed by the French Embassy in BiH and Sweden.
The second episode addresses one of the key reasons for the low level of public trust in the electoral process: election irregularities and the (non)existence of sanctions for those responsible. In the episode titled “Game-Changing Sanctions – Is It Worth Breaking Election Rules?”, host Hasan Kamenjaković speaks with experts in the field of election monitoring.
Guests of the second episode include Ivana Korajlić, Executive Director of Transparency International BiH (TI BiH), who discusses the most prevalent election irregularities and TI BiH’s experiences in reporting and monitoring sanctions, and Anida Sokol, Editor and Researcher at Mediacentar Sarajevo, who shares key findings, explains how media report during election periods, and raises the question of accountability for breaking election rules.
Why do electoral manipulations keep recurring from one election cycle to the next? Why are politicians rarely held accountable for violating election rules? Are media outlets responsible for such violations? Is breaking the rules actually worth it? These are some of the questions the second episode of the podcast seeks to answer.
