The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections Pod lupom has released a new episode of its educational and informative podcast Electoral Compass.
Coalition Pod lupom conducted an analysis of the actions taken by law enforcement agencies and prosecutors’ offices regarding reports of electoral irregularities during the local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina held on October 6, 2024. The analysis covered the period from the announcement of the elections until the certification of the election results. The findings pointed to a low level of concrete judicial response and a slow pace in processing reports, which diminishes the preventive effect and erodes citizens’ trust in judicial institutions.
The new podcast episode delves into a long-standing public concern: why are those who cheat and commit fraud in elections rarely punished? What is the journey of an electoral irregularity—from the moment it is reported to the potential sanction of the perpetrator? Why do these proceedings take years, and what is the greatest obstacle to ensuring justice?
In the episode titled Prosecution of Electoral Irregularities in BiH: What Stands in the Way of Justice?, the guest is Alma Džinović, Prosecutor at the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office, who provides first-hand insight into this issue.
