The Process of amending the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina should include all interested actors

The process of amending the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina should include all interested decision-makers, the election administration, the academic community and representatives of civil society.

The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections “Pod lupom” sent a letter to the addresses of all members of the House of representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all delegates of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Coalition praised efforts and undertaken steps to form Inter-departmental working group for amending the electoral legislation of Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasizing that the work of this body, in order to have the most successful and quality work and ultimately the results in the interest of the electoral process, must include a wider range of members.

It primarily refers to the representatives of opposition political parties that have representatives in both houses of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, representatives of the CEC BiH,  relevant representatives of the academic community, election experts and CSOs representatives dealing with elections.

It is crucial that the Inter-departmental Working Group for Amendments to the Election Legislation of BiH starts intensive work as soon as possible because the Working Group has a lot of work to do and little time. Through future amendments to the BiH Election Law, it will be necessary to address the issue of implementation of international standards in elections, implement all decisions of domestic and international courts, and remove chances of  election manipulations, which will hopefully restore the shaken confidence of BiH citizens in the election process.

It is necessary to show a high degree of responsibility towards the process which, in order to gain the trust of the public in Bosnia and Herzegovina, should be transparent and guided primarily by the public interest so to provide free and fair elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
