The initiative’s aim is to contribute to the responsible management of public resources, which implicitly reduces the possibility of corruption and will have positive effects on the lives and health of citizens, and to reduce space for further entrapment of air and public resources through misuse and irresponsible spending, especially those that City of Tuzla received for air pollution produces by Thermal Power Plant. This project is part of the wider program “Assistance to citizens in the fight against corruption”, funded by the USAID and implemented by the CCI.
A preliminary analysis on spending funds that Tuzla received on account of pollution produced by the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant in the period from 2015 to 2022, shows that only 14% or about 5 million KM, out of approximately 35 million KM received, has been spent on projects that contribute to the reduction of air pollution (energy efficiency, heating). The rest of the money has been used for infrastructure projects not contributing to reducing of air pollution.
In the period to come, within the initiative “Trapped air” Forum of Tuzla citizens will actively advocate so to provide these funds to be used for projects that reduce air pollution. The Forum of Tuzla citizens calls on all citizens to support this initiative. We will seek specific, time-bound plans for all projects that reduce air pollution and we will always seek transparent and responsible public funds management for this purpose.
“This event is organized by the Forum of Tuzla citizens as part of the project “Trapped air” which is the part of the wider program “Assistance to citizens in the fight against corruption” implemented by the CCI and funded by the USAID.”
