In order to improve the electoral process in BiH, the second cycle of trainings for representatives of prosecutor’s offices in BiH started in Banja Luka.
The training began by detailed reviewing the electoral system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Representatives of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH) presented key election processes to the participants of the training as well as irregularities they identified, which should be eliminated in the future.
Representatives of the Coalition “Pod lupom” spoke about the most common election irregularities and referred to examples from the practice.
The first day of the training finished with a discussion pertaining to the role of prosecutor’s office in the prosecution of electoral fraud and criminal offenses in the electoral process. Representatives of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasized the importance of effective cooperation with police agencies and judicial institutions in order to ensure the integrity of the electoral process in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the second day of the training, representatives from the District Public Prosecutor’s Office Doboj, the Prosecutor’s Office of Brčko District BiH and the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of the Sarajevo Canton presented their experiences from the previous practice and provided insight into specific cases and challenges they face in the processing of election irregularities.
The training completed with a presentation by representatives of the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of Tuzla Canton focusing on the cooperation of the prosecutor’s offices with other institutions and actors in order to protect the integrity of elections. They discussed cooperation with local election commissions, the CEC BiH, police agencies and other key actors, including NGOs, media and citizens.
Trainings of the Coalition “Pod lupom” represent a significant step forward in empowering representatives of the prosecution offices for a proactive approach in the processing of electoral irregularities. Previously, the first training cycle was held in Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
