The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections “Pod lupom” is sending an Open Letter to the public in anticipation of a new series of discussions pertaining to the changes to the Election Law of BiH.
During the first 15 days of the campaign to sign a citizens’ petition, 80,000 citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina sent a clear message to politicians that they want to Prevent Election Theft and Election Fraud by Introducing Electronic Voters’ Identification and Ballot Scanners.
The coalition “Pod lupom” once again draws attention to the importance of introducing new technical solutions in the elections in BiH, which would directly affect the prevention of election theft and fraud on Election Day. The Coalition “Pod lupom” uses this opportunity to invite all elected representatives in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH to adopt these improvements. In addition to the execution of binding judgments of domestic and foreign courts, the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH must adopt other improvements that will represent a concrete step towards Free and Fair Elections in BiH. Ignoring demands of 80,000 citizens would be a wrong move and a flouting citizens’ direct participation in democratic processes, which is one of their fundamental human and civil rights.
The Introduction of New Technologies would restore the credibility and integrity of the election process, as well as the confidence of citizens in elections. New Technologies in the Elections would contribute to increasing the transparency of the election process and greater turnout of citizens in the elections. In particular, the Introduction of a Ballot Scanners would not change the way voters are used to vote, but would prevent election fraud and falsification of election results, which has been a regular occurrence so far. Electronic Voters’ Identification would prevent abuses related to the identity of voters and it would be possible to monitor voter turnout in real time. Depending on the technology that would be used, it would be able to obtain election results just few hours or minutes after closing of the polling stations.
The campaign to improve the election process of the Coalition “Pod lupom” implies the active participation of the citizens of BiH in the request toward the authorities to improve the election process. During the period December 15 to December 30, 2021, the citizens of BiH had the opportunity to sign the petition at the street stands organised in more than 70 municipalities and cities in BiH, as well as online.
The citizens can sign the petition online by clicking on the link http://podlupom.org/peticija/ so to directly support the Prevention of Election Theft and Fraud on Election Day.
